Brazilian side Internacional are a big step closer to winning this year’s Copa Nissan Sudamericana following a 0-1 win at Estudiantes in Argentina.
Home fans were counting on a more positive result when Internacional’s Guiñazu collected a second yellow card after only 25 minutes.
But the Argentinians gave away a penalty nine minutes later, allowing their opponents to take a 0-1 lead. Alex’ first attempt from the spot was disallowed as the player slowed down just before hitting the ball. The second try had keeper Angeleri beaten.
In the remainder of the match, Estudiantes tried to find the equalise but even captain Juan Sebastian Veron couldn’t make a difference.
The second leg will be played in Porto Alegre, Brazil on December 3rd.
