International Champions Cup preview: Valencia v Inter

Inter defender Andrea Ranocchia has demanded better from his team-mates ahead of their International Champions Cup clash with Valencia.

Walter Mazzarri’s men were comfortably beaten 2-0 by Cheslea in their opening game of the competition on Thursday, and they will attempt to atone for that defeat against the Spanish club on Sunday.

Ranocchia conceded Inter were second best against Jose Mourinho’s side, and is hopeful they can get better as the new Serie A season approaches.

“We need to improve and try not to make the mistakes we made,” he told the club’s official website.

“These games are important because we are able to try what we do in training.”

They now face a Valencia side that are beginning life without star striker Roberto Soldado, after his move to Tottenham.

Miroslav Djukic’s men were edged out 2-1 by Inter’s city rivals Milan in their first encounter on Tuesday, midfielder Dani Parejo’s goal not enough to see them past Massimiliano Allegri’s charges.

Without Soldado the goalscoring onus has been placed on the likes of 19-year-old striker Paco Alcacer and attacking midfielder Jonas.

Still, they should be confident of finding the back of the net against an Inter side that shipped 57 Serie A goals in the previous campaign.

Both teams will be looking to improve on last year’s disappointing fortunes and, although there is little left to play for in this tournament, a win could come as a valuable boost.

Juventus or LA Galaxy await the victor of this match in the fifth-place play-off next Tuesday.
