Venezia have appointed Filippo Inzaghi as their new head coach.

Inzaghi had been out of work since being sacked by AC Milan at the end of the 2014-15 season, but the former Italy striker will now look to get his managerial career back on track at Stadio Pierluigi Penzo.

Venezia have endured dire financial issues in recent years, but won immediate promotion from Serie D to Lega Pro last season.

The club were purchased by New York lawyer Joe Tacopina and a group of American investors in October 2015 and they have now set their sights on a return to Serie B under Inzaghi’s stewardship.

A Venezia statement read: “Venezia FC announces that it has reached an agreement with Filippo Inzaghi for the technical guidance of the first team.

“The agreement will be formalised on July 1 with the signing of Inzaghi and his staff with the Arancioneroverde.”

Milan, the club where Inzaghi enjoys legendary status thanks to his achievements as a player, also wished the 42-year-old well.
