Inzaghi wary of Matri threat

Flippo Inzaghi has warned of the threat Alessandro Matri could pose his Milan side when they travel to Serie A high-flyers Genoa on Sunday.

Matri is on loan at Genoa from the San Siro outfit and has six goals to his name so far this season helping his temporary club to third in the league standings – two points ahead of sixth-placed Milan.

Genoa are unbeaten in eight Serie A matches and currently sit fourth in the table, with Inzaghi expecting Matri to prove a handful at the Stadio Comunale Luigi Ferraris.

Inzaghi also spoke of his hope that Matri can continue to stay on form ahead of his return to San Siro.

“He is an excellent player so we will have to be very careful,” Inzaghi said on Saturday.

“I’m very happy when Matri does well because he’s a friend. We spoke during the summer to discuss his future and he preferred to go to a team where he could play.

“I hope he can come back stronger than before.”

Milan are unbeaten in their last three Serie A matches – coinciding with the recent return of experienced midfield pair Nigel De Jong and Riccardo Montolivo to the first team.

However, Inzaghi feels Milan will need to be at their best if they are to continue that run.

“The squad has prepared in the right way and we’re about to face a tough match,” he added.

“Genoa are on an eight-match unbeaten run, we know the difficulties but we’re also going through a good moment and we have to give continuity to our results.

“Once we’ve been able to give continuity to our results we can be happy but we will need a very good Milan.

“Home advantage will be fundamental for them. However, we’re ready for any battle right now and I believe that it will also be hard for them to come up against a Milan side like this.”
