Ireland pens new Stoke deal

Stephen Ireland has signed a new three-year deal with Stoke City, according to Sky Sports.

After being frozen out at Aston Villa, the Republic of Ireland midfielder has got his career back on track at the Britannia Stadium since moving there, initially on loan on the final day of the 2013 summer transfer window.

He signed for the Potters permanently back in January and, having made twenty-five appearances in all competitions, has now committed himself to the club until the summer of 2017.

His form has even led to talk of a potential international recall, with his last cap coming in a 2-2 draw with Slovakia over six-and-a-half years ago.

Stoke won for a fourth time in five Premier League games at the weekend to tighten their grip on tenth place, and they are now odds on to finish in the top half of the table for the first time since they gained promotion to the top flight in 2008.
