Is Luis Suarez set to leave Liverpool this summer?

Liverpool striker Luis Suarez has again hinted that he wishes to move away from Anfield.

Suarez is currently on international duty with Uruguay, but it does not seem to have stopped speculation about his future.

Hint

Suarez told press: “It’s a good moment for a change of environment because of all I’ve been through in England, where I haven’t been judged as a player but based on other things.

“I had a hard time, very hard, and the things that have been said are lies. One has limits and the family also suffers. It is nothing against Liverpool, on the contrary, I feel very comfortable at the club, but I have a daughter and I do not want to hear bad things about her father”

He went on to say: I do not know when I’m going and I do not know if I’m staying. If I stay it is because it is a great club but also in turn I know that it is difficult because of the harassment I get from the press.

“They treated me bad and it would be understandable if one day I go to my club (and the media are waiting for him) but I cannot walk my baby, the paparazzi are always there.

“My reason for leaving is not the money. If it were the money I would have left already. My family, my image, that’s what matters to me most”.

Spain

Speculation has been rife in the past few weeks that Luis Suarez could be making the move to Spain with Real Madrid. His agent recently came out and said that the striker is happy at Liverpool, but his most recent statement suggests he could still be on the move.

It seems that what he says in the media is a ploy to force a move away from Liverpool. He has previous of this sort of tactic at Ajax and it would not surprise me if Suarez did now leave the Reds this summer.

Jekyll and Hyde

Luis Suarez is such a Jekyll and Hyde character. He is without doubt one of the most talented footballers in the Premier League, yet he has this habit of hitting the self-destruct button. He has been involved in a number of controversial incidents in his time in England.

The latest being the ridiculous biting of Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic. Suarez gets involved in these sorts of incidents, yet claims that all the English media judge him on his bad behaviour rather than his football.

What do you expect Luis? He really does not help himself. If he stayed away from controversy and behaved himself then the media would just be talking about his football ability, not his poor behaviour.

As I have mentioned in the past, he has the hallmarks of a flawed genius at times. He is often brilliant, but sometimes crazy.

Brilliant

Take away the silly behaviour and you have a brilliant footballer, who has the ability to win a football match almost his own. Suarez finished second in the Premier League scorers charts last season with 23 goals, despite missing the last four games of the season through suspension.

Suarez is the shining light in the Liverpool team. Without him, Liverpool would have struggled badly this season.

Support

Throughout his Liverpool career Liverpool fans have supported Luis Suarez, even when he has not deserved their support at times. It seems that Luis Suarez is about to repay that support by leaving Anfield, that is gratitude for you.

From reading the messages boards and talking to Liverpool fans the consensus seems to be that enough is enough. Although Reds fans obviously rate the striker highly they are being realistic and many are saying he should now leave the club.

A big transfer fee would allow Brendan Rodgers money to spend and attempt to strengthen his team for next season.

Move on

No man is bigger than Liverpool Football Club and that includes Luis Suarez. Heroes have left before and been replaced, most notably Fernando Torres in the recent past. Luis Suarez is no different at all.

If Luis Suarez does leave Liverpool, at least the club will not have to deal with the controversy that the striker seems to cause anymore. Luis Suarez the footballer will be a big loss to both Liverpool and the Premier League, but Luis Suarez the person will definitely not.

Will Luis Suarez leave Liverpool this summer?

Andre, we’re dealing with multiple cultures, so interpretations are going to be different. For example, where I come from, you can’t say words like negro, or worse, “nigger”, or you’re viewed as racist.

Another thing, we should all have already figured out that insulting French people ain’t a bright idea. Cantona, Zidane, and then Evra. . . you get the idea.

And then, you’ve got the biting and everything. . . clearly, he has been playing zombie mode on Black Ops 2 a tad too much.

The dude’s a brilliant player, but his petulance is what brings him down, similar to how Tevez and Balotelli have been.

I dont believe that Suarez has hit distruction button, every player harbour trash talk/characters but only trigers by peoples action. Luis has recieved more hard sanctions in England than d offences commited when compare with other similar offences. He only need to be checkmated and encourage, Luis must stay, Liverpool need goals

    @ Andre,

Premature when there was already a 8 matches suspension after trial? I would agree that that decision is somewhat harsh with reference to other similar cases but what about the biting incidence (after a quick search, there were just 2 other biting cases in Soccer; Defoe and another Suarez’s, the rest would occur in Rugby and Boxing) and the total disrespect for the Club for putting in a transfer request albeit all the support?

I certainly do not how he can claim that his ‘image’ is being tarnished after all these times ; maybe he really came from another parallel universe after all.

Look, I am a Liverpool fan from Indonesia, it sad to hear this news, but accusing Suarez of being racist is a bit premature, based on what the news about his conversation with Evra, I noticed that based from culture standpoint, he is not a racist, he may be a trashtalker but i dont think he is a racist, In Indonesia the word “negro” is not intended as a derogative or offensive remarks. it is just to differentiate between the local people (who has a dark skin) and a local people who has a African feature (dark skin and curly hair), we use that word all the time and it’s not means as an offensive abuse. so maybe it’s a culture things, not a racist thing.

He has basically hit the self-destructed button. If he is allowed to leave, great, he succeeded, otherwise, expect tons of boo’s from the Fans next season. If he is having a hard time already now, expect a three to five fold of the current situation.

Honestly, I wonder how he still has the cheek to talk about image when he clearly did unthinkable things (being racist and ..biting?), now a complete lack of respect for Liverpool club, management and fans.

Liverpool has proved that they can cope well enough without Suarez in the last few matches that they did not have his service; indeed if he stays (and that he has to be 100% willing and committed), he would be great for the Liverpool’s ambitions to challenge next season. Now though, he is just a double-edge sword to the team and a living time bomb.

    I say, let him go.
