Brazilian fullback Maxwell says playing for Barcelona is a ‘privilege’ as he hailed the squad’s unique identity.

The 30-year-old has featured three times as a substitute in La Liga this season as his side raced to the top of the table after six games.

Having become used to success following their La Liga and Champions League double last season, Maxwell believes now is the right time to be playing at Camp Nou after his move there from Inter in 2009.

“Playing for Barcelona in these moments is a privilege,” Maxwell told Mundodeportivo.com. “I am proud and very happy to be playing for this unique group.”

Perhaps no player is more unique than Lionel Messi who continues to shine for his club.

Messi was recently involved in Argentina’s 1-0 loss to Venezuela in a World Cup 2014 qualifying clash, but Maxwell believes his club colleague will be successful on the international front as well.

“Messi has always shown his quality for Barcelona and Argentina,” he said. “You cannot compare Messi, he is from another planet. But, I am sure he will be successful with Argentina.”

Barcelona lead the La Liga table ahead of Levante on goal difference with a home match against Racing Santander on Saturday.
