Benfica head coach Jorge Jesus has urged his team not to get carried away after their 2-0 win over Anderlecht on Tuesday.

The Liga Sagres giants made the perfect start to their UEFA Champions League campaign thanks to goals from Filip Djuricic and Luisao in the Group C clash.

A home win was the ideal start for Benfica but Jesus refuses to get carried away with the good victory in Lisbon.

“We know from experience that points are vital for progress in the Champions League and we have three from the first match but we have to take things on a game-by-game basis,” Benfica’s coach said.

“We are playing in the Champions League, with the best teams, the best players, the best coaches.

“The Champions League is a competition that has so much quality. The players and the clubs in it like to play.”

Jesus played down expectations surrounding his team, saying it was idealistic to expect his side to dominate matches like Barcelona.

“Benfica were far better in the first half, in the second Anderlecht did their job better and evened up the tie,” Jesus said.

“People must understand that we cannot massacre opponents for 90 minutes or score lot of goals. We are not Barcelona.”
