Malaga winger Joaquin has maintained that he and his team-mates are focused only on football after an off-season of upheaval at La Rosaleda.
The La Liga club have been crippled by their rising debts and have been forced to sell many of their best players in order to reduce an estimated 90 million euros owed to the tax office and other clubs.
Santi Cazorla, Joris Mathijsen and Salomon Rondon have already been offloaded in order to raise funds, but with the threat of further departures looming, Joaquin revealed that the squad’s only concern is completing their on-pitch preparations for the new season.
“The team have stayed out of the affairs of the club all along. We have focused only on our work and will let (the Malaga board) do theirs,” Joaquin told reporters.
“Thankfully things have calmed down a lot, which is what we all wanted. We are happy with this situation. Things works best this way.”
The 31-year-old also opened up about a freak accident suffered in training, which has left him in doubt for the opening game of the season against Celta Vigo on August 19.
“I was trying to stop a ball going out of play and with some bad luck one of the spikes in the fence was left poking out and I’ve taken the impact,” Joaquin said.
“I’m fine, but what hurts me most is the rib, where I have a pretty big wound. It hurts enough to raise doubts. We will do some tests, and if nothing is damaged then nothing should stop me travelling tomorrow.”
