Sunderland striker Kenwyne Jones is expected to be back in action within two months after knee surgery.
It had been feared that the Trinidad and Tobago star would be sidelined until Christmas after suffering a serious knee injury on international duty against England in June.
But his operation on Tuesday was a success and the Premier League club hope to see their leading forward back in training by October.
“He had his operation yesterday. Fortunately we've avoided major surgery and expect him back in training in the next six to eight weeks,” manager Roy Keane told Sunderland's website.
“You never know the full story until you go into the knee, that's why we've been open in terms of the prognosis.
“But it's great news for everyone at the club - Kenwyne is a big player for us.”
