Jovetic set to join Man City; Roma add Maicon, Strootman

ACF Fiorentina have reached an agreement with Manchester City for the transfer of Stevan Jovetic.

ACF Fiorentina have reached an agreement with Premier League runners-up Manchester City for the transfer of highly-rated Montenegro international forward Stevan Jovetic, Viola Channel has confirmed.

Jovetic, who bagged 13 goals and five assists in 31 league appearances for Fiorentina last season, has reportedly attracted interest from a number of top European clubs, including the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United, this summer.

“ACF Fiorentina has agreed terms with Manchester City FC for the permanent transfer of Stevan Jovetic, subject to the player signing a contract with the English club,” read a statement on Viola Channel TV.

The Gigliati completed the signing of FC Bayern Munich striker Mario Gómez for a reported fee of €20 million earlier this week, fueling speculation that Jovetic was on the verge of joining City despite the arrival of Álvaro Negredo from Sevilla.

City have really splashed the cash, approximately £90 million, this summer, having also signed Fernandinho from FC Shakhtar Donetsk and Jesús Navas from Sevilla.

Meanwhile, Carlos Tevez, Kolo Touré, Roque Santa Cruz and Wayne Bridge have left the Etihad Stadium for pastures new.

Tevez joined Serie A champions Juventus in a £10 million deal while Bridge, Santa Cruz and Touré left the club via free transfer, joining Reading, Malaga and Liverpool respectively.

Roma add Maicon, Strootman

A.S. Roma have completed the signings of Brazil defender Maicon from Manchester City and Holland midfield maestro Kevin Strootman from Dutch Eredivisie giants PSV Eindhoven, Sky Sports understands.

Maicon, 31, has joined Roma in a deal worth £3 million after being excluded from the City squad by new manager Manuel Pellegrini.

The former Brazil No. 1 right wing-back made just 13 appearances in all competitions for City last season due in large part to the spectacular form of Argentine defender Pablo Zabaleta, who was named to the PFA Team of the Year and voted Etihad Player of the Year in 2012/13.

Strootman, 23, has signed a five-year contract with the Giallorossi after Roma reached an agreement, reportedly worth €20 million, with PSV for the Holland international.

The 23-year-old midfielder, who netted five goals in 32 league appearances for the Eredivisie runners-up last term, was previously linked with a summer move to Manchester United.

“I am very excited to be able to play for this great club,” said Strootman.

“It is the next stage in my career development after being at Sparta, FC Utrecht and PSV, a club at which I had a lot of fun.”

Having missed out on yet another top midfielder, who will United target next?

The Red Devils best options are most likely Cesc Fàbregas and David Luiz, who may — but most likely not — be allowed to leave West London for Manchester in a swap-deal for the Blues’ top transfer target Wayne Rooney.
