Although the European leagues might be putting together their preparations before the new seasons get underway, battles in both the MLS and the Brazilian Serie A are starting to heat up. On that note, we have found a handful of helpful tips that can boost your midweek footballing accumulator.

Thursday 26th July

01:00 BST DC United vs New York Red Bulls

Starting with the visitors on Thursday morning, New York’s new boss Chris Armas has enjoyed a successful start to life at the Red Bull Arena. Coming off the back of a win over New England, they have now won four of their last five and a win will see them leapfrog bitter rivals New York City into second spot. Along with DC now winning just one of their last seven in all competitions, the visitors are also unbeaten in their last five matches against United, scoring two or more on each occasion. One man in particular to watch for New York is former Manchester City striker Bradley Wright-Phillips, after scoring his 100th MLS goal earlier in the year, the 33-year-old now has 13 for the season and after scoring in their 2-0 win over New England last week, BWP now sits second in the goalscoring charts. Coming up against a DC United side who have remarkably only recorded just one clean sheet since September 2017, the Red Bulls captain will fancy his chances of carrying on his goalscoring record.

Tip: Away win @ 11/8

01:45 Corinthians vs Cruzeiro

For Osmar Loss’ Corinthians side, although the hosts may have started their Brazilian Serie A campaign brightly, they have struggled with their consistency of late and coming off the back of a 3-1 loss to São Paulo last time out, Corthinians have now picked up just one win in their last six and have begun slipping down the table. After losing three of their last five meetings against Cruzeiro, we fancy it could be another tough evening for the hosts, especially given the visitors recent run of form. With Cruzeiro coming off the back of a 2-1 win over a struggling Atlético PR side, Mano Menezes’ team have now only lost one in their last 10 matches in all competitions and a win will see them briefly jump up to third in the table. Given the difference in form between the two sides, we’re backing Cruzeiro to come away with the win on Thursday.

Tip: Away win @ 15/8

01:45 Santos vs Flamengo

For the visitors, although Flamengo were only able to land a sixth-place finish last season, The Red and Blacks have enjoyed a stellar start to the new campaign and are tipped by many as the favorites to life their sixth Serie A title. Coming off the back of a 2-0 win over Botafogo last week, the visitors still sit atop of the table and they have shone at both ends of the pitch. Scoring 23 and conceding just eight in return in their 13 outings this season, along with now keeping a clean sheet in seven of their last nine matches in Serie A, Flamengo also boast a stellar record away from the Estádio Luso-Brasileiro. Now with just one away defeat since November 2017, Maurício Barbieri’s side should fancy their chances against a Santos side flirting with the relegation zone. With Serie A’s longest franchise coming off the back of a 0-0 draw with Chapecoense, Santos have now picked up one win in their last seven and more worrying for the hosts, they have now only managed to find the net once in their last four.

Tip: Away win @ 17/10

02:00 Houston Dynamo vs Philadelphia Union

For the hosts, after booking their spot in the semi-final of this years US Open Cup, it appears that Wilmer Cabrera’s Houston side are enjoying a mid-season bounce. Coming off the back of an impressive 1-1 draw with Western Conference leaders FC Dallas, The Dynamo’s are unbeaten in their last five outings and have also only lost one match at the BBVA Compass Stadium since the start of April. Part of Houston’s recent success can be put down to leading goalscorer Mauro Manotas, after scoring in the 1-1 draw against Dallas last time out, the 23-year-old Colombian now has 10 for the season and has also found the net in three of his last four home matches. Coming up against a Philadelphia side who lost 3-1 to LA Galaxy last week and have only won one of their last five matches away from home, we’re backing Manotas to carry on his impressive record in front of goal.

Tip: Mauro Manotas to score anytime @ 6/5
