Juve´s destiny in rivals´ hands: Delneri

Juventus boss Luigi Delneri admits their chase for a UEFA Champions League spot is out of their hands with five games left in the Serie A.

The Bianconeri are eight points adrift of fourth-placed Lazio ahead of their meeting with Catania on Saturday.

Delneri conceded other results would have to fall his team’s way for them to take fourth spot, particularly after their scoreless draw with Fiorentina on Sunday.

“We have the obligation to always give the maximum, but we cannot be presumptuous and think that we can always win,” Delneri said.

“(The Champions League) depends on others. We can only try to do the maximum and then we will make calculations in the end.”

Delneri said his future was in the club’s hands despite reports in Turin linking him to an exit at the end of the season.

One player who does not want to leave the club is midfielder Alberto Aquilani.

The 26-year-old is on-loan from Liverpool, where manager Kenny Dalglish has already expressed his desire to have him back next season, but Aquilani wants to remain in the Serie A.

“My desire is to stay in Turin for a long time (and) to win a lot. I mean a lot,” Aquilani told La Gazzetta dello Sport.

“I don’t know how the negotiations are going with Liverpool, but the situation is simple. It all depends on Juve. If they want me then they can buy me.”

Juventus are hoping to pick up Aquilani, who believes the club are on the right track despite most likely missing Champions League qualification, for less than the 16 million euro fee agreed last summer.
