Juventus strike deal for Liverpool’s Alonso

Juventus has tried to bring Xabi Alonso to the club since the beginning of the transfer window. Rumours of bids both accepted and denied were common-place; several sums had been mentioned, but no fee could be actually agreed upon. Now, it emerges that the Italian giants have finally agreed a deal with Liverpool for the gifted midfielder.

Sentants Sports reports that a £14.2 million fee has bee struck between the two clubs. Now, all that needs to be done is for the player to agree to personal terms with the Italian team, who have already signed Sissoko from the English giants earlier this year.

Xabi Alonso was though to be happy at Liverpool where his relationship with manager Rafa Benitez was a good one, while the fans seem to like their player who scored in that memorable Champions League final in 2005. But it seems that the player will be looking for a new challenge or a new currency.

This departure will probably mean that Liverpool think they can striker a deal with Aston Villa for Gareth Barry to take the place of the outgoing midfielder.
