Real Madrid playmaker Kaka is doubtful for the club’s Champions League away match to Marseille next week after he picked up a groin injury over the weekend, Spanish media reported Wednesday.
The 27-year-old midfielder has a hernia and will undergo physiotherapy and specific workouts this week, Real said Tuesday on its website. He picked up the injury during the club’s defeat in the Spanish league to Barcelona on Sunday.
But sports daily Marca said Wednesday the player could miss Real’s next league match against Almeria on Saturday as well as its Champions League match against Marseille on December 8.
Real will qualify for the knockout stage of the Champions League if they manage to avoid losing by 3-0 or more at the Velodrome.
The club’s 1-0 ‘El Clasico’ defeat to Barcelona on Sunday knocked them off the top of La Liga. Real are now in second place with 28 points, two adrift of Barcelona.
Kaka has scored just three times in La Liga since he joined Real from AC Milan for 65 million euros in July.
