Real Madrid coach Aitor Karanka has dismissed worries about Cristiano Ronaldo’s sore ankle.
Ronaldo scored a hat-trick in Madrid’s 4-0 win over Getafe in La Liga on Sunday, netting in the 62nd, 65th and 72nd minute after Sergio Ramos opened the scoring shortly after half-time.
And Karanka pointed out that Ronaldo’s performance should remove any doubts about his fitness, saying that ice was applied to the player’s ankle as a precaution.
“(We used) ice as a precaution and we haven’t removed it. His performance is there for all to see. Just look at the goals he scored,” he said.
Meanwhile, Karanka also commented on Kaka’s position at the club. The Brazilian attacker has been linked with a move back to AC Milan in recent weeks, but the assistant coach stated that the 30-year-old’s future at the Bernabeu is still uncertain.
“Until January 31, we will have to see what the best option is for Kaka and Real Madrid. If, in the end, he stays, he will form part of the squad and must prove that he is worthy of being one of our 18 matchday players,” he said.
“The market is still open and there are clubs still negotiating with him.”
Antonio Adan kept a clean sheet in the first match since Iker Casillas’ injury, and the goalkeeper was delighted to see Ronaldo return to aid Madrid’s second-half improvement.
“I didn’t have much to do and I’m happy with my performance. We were sluggish with our play in the first half but we still had chances,” he said.
“In the second half, we put right everything that we failed to do initially. Their goalkeeper was the man of the match.
“It’s pretty cool to have Cristiano on the pitch again. He returned to score three goals and he’s the best. His fitness is superb.”
Real Madrid sit third on the table on 43 points after Sunday’s victory.
