Valeri Karpin has denied reports linking Spartak Moscow with Marco Amelia, stating he has never heard of the AC Milan goalkeeper.
Amelia, 29, had been linked with a move to the Russian Premier League club after reportedly growing tired of his role as a reserve to Christian Abbiati at Milan.
But Spartak coach Karpin, a former Real Sociedad midfielder, insists no such deal is presently being lined up.
“Absolutely not, we are honestly not in negotiations (with Amelia) and I do not even know who he is,” Karpin told MilanNews.
Karpin was then quizzed on the prospect of landing any Serie A stars in the near future, after seeing the likes of Salvatore Bocchetti and Domenico Criscito succeed in Russia.
“In life, never say never, but right now we have players on our radar. Italian footballers definitely interest me, so maybe we’ll do something in the future,” he said.
