Simon Kjaer’s future could lie away from Wolfsburg, the club’s general manager Klaus Allofs has admitted.
The Bundesliga outfit have welcomed Timm Klose from FC Nurnberg in the close season, intensifying the competition for places in defence.
And the arrival of the Switzerland international could be the trigger for Denmark international Kjaer to call time on his stay at the Westfalenstadion, with reported interest from Premier League clubs Liverpool and Newcastle United.
“I have had a chat with Simon Kjaer about his situation at the club and of course, it’s not to Simon’s satisfaction to not play regular first-team matches,” Allofs told German magazine Kicker.
“This may well, in the end, lead him to make a change.”
The 24-year-old Kjaer made 25 appearances in all competitions for Wolfsburg last term as they finished 11th in the German top flight.
