Klopp not concerned by Sturridge behaviour

Jurgen Klopp has defended Daniel Sturridge after the striker appeared to ignore Liverpool fans at the end of Sunday’s 3-1 defeat to Swansea City in the Premier League.

The striker played the full 90 minutes at the Liberty Stadium but was not able to stop Liverpool slipping to a disappointing defeat.

Sturridge had one clear chance in the first half that drifted wide, but otherwise it was a frustrating afternoon for the England international – and that showed at the final whistle.

As the two sets of players shook hands in the centre circle, and Liverpool’s squad went to applaud the travelling supporters, there was a notable absentee – Sturridge choosing to head straight for the dressing room.

“Sorry, if you think we ignored the fans, that is not what we wanted, but I went in too immediately,” Klopp told a news conference.

“I think our fans know how close we are to them.

“After a game like this you want to leave, you want to go, you want to go home, you want to rest, you want to recover, you want to do a lot of things.

“If someone forget to say sorry it’s my fault nobody else’s fault.”
