Klopp still plans changes despite Arsenal win

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp still plans to make changes to his squad in the off-season despite his side’s win over Arsenal.

Klopp’s team showed some of their best form in a 3-1 win at Anfield on Saturday, just days after slumping to defeat at Leicester City.

Despite their inconsistency, Liverpool are fourth in the Premier League, while Klopp has said he may sign up to six players at the end of the season.

His side may have impressed against Arsenal, but Klopp said players needed to be judged on more than just their best performances.

“If we judge the players after the best game of the season, then we sign a contract for another six seasons,” he told UK newspapers.

“If we do it after Leicester then you change the whole squad. But the truth is always in between. That is what we are working on, really working on.

“There will be moments when we play like this [against Arsenal] and win again – and it is what we did this season already, in fact – and it will be against a team not in the top six.

“But we have to work on it, first of all we have to feel like it is possible.”

While Liverpool have enjoyed good results against better opposition, they have struggled against lower-half teams – losing to the likes of Leicester, Hull City, Swansea City, Bournemouth and Burnley this season.

Klopp said there were some questions over the quality of his squad, but not their attitude.

“I don’t want to make it too philosophical, it is obviously the case we are inconsistent,” he said.

“I know we don’t have to doubt their attitude in the way we usually think about it – ‘do they really want it? Are they really motivated?’ We cannot play as we did [against Arsenal] if we have any issues like this.

“But we struggled in other games. So OK, you say it is about quality, and yeah probably sometimes it is quality.

“But we have potential and you make quality of it, with work and all that stuff.”

Liverpool are next in action with a clash against Burnley at Anfield on Sunday.
