Italy forward Antonio Di Natale is expected to be sidelined for a while after suffering a knee injury in Saturday’s World Cup qualifier with Montenegro.
The Udinese striker fell on the slippery surface and damaged ligaments in his left knee. “The doctors will have to decide whether to use conservative therapy or operate,” said team doctor Enrico Castellaci.
Udinese officials have openly blamed the poor state of the Montenegro pitch for their player’s injury.
Italy boss Marcello Lippi will not call up a replacement for Wednesday’s crucial match with Ireland in Bari.
