Feyenoord coach Ronald Koeman expressed his disappointment after his side’s 6-0 mauling at the hands of Groningen in the Eredivisie on Sunday.
The Rotterdam giants went a goal down inside the first minute when Dusan Tadic scored for Groningen and further strikes from Maikel Kieftenbeld and Petter Andersson put the hosts well clear early.
Koeman said his side did not perform of a standard worthy of the Dutch top flight.
“As a team we have failed incredibly,” the former Netherlands international told AD Sportwereld.
“It was 3-0 after 18 minutes. As a team we did not do our best to avoid these goals. We have been given a lesson in efficiency.”
He added: “The players don’t just have to take a look at each other and the team, they have to take a look at themselves.”
Feyenoord are sixth in the Eredivisie table, 10 points behind leaders AZ Alkmaar.
