Manchester City completed the signing of Belgium defender Vincent Kompany from Hamburg for an undisclosed fee on Friday.
Kompany, 22, agreed a four-year contract with the Premier League club after passing a medical.
“Manchester City can confirm the signing of Belgian international defender Vincent Kompany from Bundesliga side Hamburg SV on a four-year deal for an undisclosed fee,” a statement on City's website confirmed.
City hope Kompany, who recently helped Belgium reach the semi-finals at the Beijing Olympics, will receive clearance in time to play in Sunday's home clash against West Ham.
It is believed City paid around 10 million pounds (12.5 million euros) to sign former Anderlecht star Kompany, who becomes Hughes's third new arrival after Brazil striker Jo and Tal Ben Haim.
