South Africa interim boss Steve Komphela is confident of success in the role and said he understands the responsibility of leading the nation.
Komphela was speaking on Tuesday when he was officially handed the reins, albeit on an interim basis, following the sacking of Pitso Mosimane.
“I will try as much as possible to remain what you want us to be and work for this nation. And I’m sure by so doing success is imminent,” the former Bafana Bafana captain said at a press conference.
“The only thing that one needs to be careful about in this position is; it is not yours. This is a public position and you were just given the unique honour and privilege to be the face.”
Komphela’s first match in charge will be the 2014 World Cup qualifier against Botswana on Saturday in Gaborone and he is confident the team can live up to expectations.
“We are fully aware of the challenge and I’m sure we could be equal to the task in terms of overcoming the challenge. We will be ready come Saturday,” he said.
