Deportivo La Coruna ended their nine-match unbeaten run with a vital 3-1 home win over Celta Vigo in La Liga on Friday.
In a relegation battle between two struggling sides, Deportivo opened the scoring in the ninth minute after Riki controlled a Juan Carlos Valeron pass with his thigh before unleashing a superb volley from just inside the box.
The game then swung even further in Deportivo’s favour when Celta striker Iago Aspas was sent off in the 29th minute for head-butting Carlos Marchena following a collision in the box.
Defender Silvio Azevedo sent the Deportivo fans into raptures with a stunning 30-yard volley in the 64th minute before substitute Diogo Salomao made the points safe in the 79th minute.
Park Chu-Young pulled one back for the visitors two minutes later but it proved to be nothing more than mere consolation as Jose Luis Oltra’s side ran out deserved winners.
Deportivo remain at the bottom of La Liga on 20 points with Celta in second last three points ahead.
Oltra’s men are set to face relegation rivals Mallorca and Real Zaragoza over the next two rounds.
