Mallorca’s unbeaten start to the La Liga season came to an end when they were beaten 1-0 at Getafe on Monday.

Joaquin Caparros’ side had picked up 11 points from their opening five games following victories over Espanyol, Real Sociedad and Valencia.

And they were favourites to overcome hosts Getafe, who sat three points off bottom spot.

But they soon found themselves down to 10 men after defender Ximo Navarro was dismissed for a challenge on Diego Castro with a little over 10 minutes played at the Coliseum Alfonso Perez.

Navarro’s red card did not go down well with the travelling side and their numerical disadvantage became evident when Castro opened the scoring four minutes into the second half.

The speedy winger, who spent three seasons with Mallorca, hit the back of the net from close range.

Getafe were dominant from that point with 11 corners to two and they came close to putting the result beyond doubt late on through Angel Lafita.

The result moves Getafe up to 11th on seven points, while Mallorca remains fifth, seven points adrift of leaders Barcelona.
