A brace from Carlos Vela has inspired Real Sociedad to a 4-0 triumph over Rayo Vallecano, earning the Basque club their second straight win.

Vela scored twice in two minutes during the first half to get Sociedad underway in front of their home fans, taking his season tally to five goals, and strikes to Mikel Gonzalez and Gonzalo Castro completed the rout in the second half.

Sociedad moved above Vallecano in La Liga’s standings on goal difference thanks to Monday’s result, taking up ninth spot on the table with 16 points.

Vela put the home team in front in the 31st minute when he finished off Diego Ifran’s fine lead-up work and then before the Sociedad fans had time to sit down, the 23-year-old Mexican forward struck again thanks to an assist from Ruben Pardo.

Sociedad were 3-0 up in the 61st minute when Gonzalez tapped home after a cross from the right was headed down to the central defender by Ifran, while Castro scored 16 minutes later after another assist from Pardo.

The win comes after Sociedad’s shock victory away to Malaga last week.
