Alvaro Negredo scored a hat-trick as Sevilla eased to a 4-1 home win past lowly Celta Vigo in La Liga on Monday.

The hosts were ahead after 12 minutes at Estadio Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan, Jesus Navas seeing his shot parried into the path of Negredo, who knocked in the rebound.

Iago Aspas produced Celta’s first noteworthy attack after 30 minutes, but Portuguese goalkeeper Beto was on hand to save the forward’s shot.

Sevilla extended their advantage just two minutes later when goalkeeper Javi Varvas palmed the ball into Negredo’s path for a second time in the match, the Spain striker again on hand to make the visitors pay.

Celta fought their way back into the match five minutes before the half-time interval as Aspas stormed into the penalty area before feeding Augusto Fernandez to slot home from close range.

But another Varvas mistake saw Sevilla restore their two-goal buffer on 66 minutes, with Gary Medel’s tame shot slipping through his grasp and into the net.

Negredo sealed the match two minutes later, latching onto a loose ball inside the area and thumping home his 13th goal of the season.

The victory lifts Sevilla into 10th place and within six points of the European places, while Celta stay in 18th, two points shy of safety.
