Atletico Madrid extended their unbeaten run in La Liga to 14 games with a thrilling 1-0 win at Real Sociedad on Sunday.

The match looked destined for a draw until Columbian forward Radamel Falcao broke the deadlock in second-half stoppage time.

Madrid, who last tasted league defeat in April, remain second with seven wins and one draw, behind Barcelona on goal difference.

Elsewhere, Christian Stuani scored at the death to hand Espanyol a 3-2 victory over Rayo Vallecano in Barcelona.

Leo Baptistao opened the scoring for the visitors in the 12th minute, but the advantage was short-lived as Verdu struck on either side of the break to put Espanyol in front.

Leo levelled the contest on 63 minutes before both teams had a player sent off as tempers frayed.

Vallecano’s Mikel Labaka was shown a straight red card in the 68th minute, while Espanyol’s Diego Colotto picked up a second caution on 81 minutes.

Stuani headed home the winner in injury time, securing his side’s first win of the season.

In other matches, Real Zaragoza claimed a 2-1 win away to 10-man Granada.

Zaragoza made an ideal start when Helder Postiga found the net in the third minute before Victor Rodriguez doubled the advantage 24 minutes later.

The hosts remained undeterred and reduced the margin through Moroccan forward Youssef El Arabi on 77 minutes.

But Zaragoza’s hopes of victory took a blow less than 60 seconds later when Brazilian midfielder Iriney Santos was dismissed for a second bookable offence.

Levante clinched a 1-0 win at Getafe courtesy of a late goal from Michel, who struck in the 87th minute after coming on as a substitute.

Osasuna and Real Betis played out a 0-0 stalemate in Pamplona.
