A 92nd-minute winner has denied Deportivo La Coruna a share of the points in a 3-2 loss to Valencia in La Liga on Saturday.
Bottom-placed Deportivo started off terribly in front of their home fans with Jonas putting Valencia ahead inside the first minute.
But a brace to Spanish striker Riki before half-time gave the struggling club a 2-1 lead and hope of a morale-boosting victory.
Deportivo’s lead only lasted 18 minutes into the second half, as Nelson Valdez tied the contest, before Ricardo Costa broke the home side’s heart with the late winner that consigned Deportivo to at least another week of being at the foot of the table.
Valencia jump from 10th to sixth in the standings with six matches in the round still to come.
Levante continued their push for European football with a last-gasp 2-1 win at home against Real Valladolid.
The provisionally fifth-placed club conceded the lead after eight minutes as Javier Baraja gave Valladolid a shock lead.
Jose Barkero equalised for Levante just before half-time before Valladolid defender Antonio Rukavina put the ball in his own net on 90 minutes to seal victory for the hosts.
In other results, Celta Vigo drew 1-1 with Real Sociedad while Real Zaragoza fought out a goalless draw with Espanyol.
