Lahm: Treble just the start for Bayern

Bayern Munich captain Philipp Lahm has backed the club to continue their success next season.

Bayern won a historic treble last term as they collected the Bundesliga, UEFA Champions League and DFB-Pokal crowns, becoming the first German side to do so, and have Pep Guardiola joining as manager ahead of next season.

They will also have Borussia Dortmund playmaker Mario Goetze arriving as they look to defend their silverware and Lahm has backed his team-mates to keep delivering the goods.

“The most beautiful thing for me is that I am convinced that these three titles are not the end, but rather the beginning,” he told German newspaper Suddeutsche Zeitung.

“We have an exceptional squad, we have top characters in the team and an excellent mentality. And almost every single one of us has a long-term contract. The team is going to remain intact and even get stronger.”

He also called for Bayern to build on the success already achieved and create a lasting dynasty that would set them alongside the top sides in history.

“We are a team who can collect titles for many years to come,” he said.

“We need to make an era out of this memorable year. Our best years are still to come, as strange as that may sound after winning the treble.”
