Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert has already drawn up transfer targets but has not said if Grant Holt is one of them.
The former Norwich City manager was officially unveiled by the Midlands club on Wednesday and has already set his sights on bringing new faces to Villa Park.
And he took time to praise Holt, who helped the Canaries seal back-to-back promotions and scored 15 goals upon their return to the Premier League last season.
He told Sky Sports: “He’s been brilliant for me, he really was terrific. His goalscoring record speaks for itself – he was brilliant, really brilliant.
“We will have to wait and see what happens. I’m only just in the door at the minute and I’ll see what happens in the next few weeks and months.”
However, Lambert remained coy on naming particular players in which he is interested, but revealed talks with the club’s hierarchy regarding transfers have taken place.
“I have had a good chat with Paul (Faulkner, chief executive) and the chairman (Randy Lerner) at length.
“They have been great and are enthusiastic for the football club to do well. There are guys there that I spoke about and hopefully we can get them in.”
