Frank Lampard remains hopeful that he can come to an agreement with Chelsea over a new contract to extend his stay at Stamford Bridge.

The midfielder arrived 12 years ago from West Ham and became Chelsea’s all-time leading scorer with two goals against Aston Villa last Saturday.

However, the England international has had to wait to enter contract discussions with the club, who initially announced he would not be offered a new deal.

Lampard has scored 17 goals this season and with the end of the campaign in sight, he finally looks set to be rewarded for his performances.

“There’s no news (on my new Chelsea contract),” he said. “I’m hoping to stay and
the club have been brilliant, so I just hope we can get there.”

The 34-year-old was influential in Chelsea’s 2-1 UEFA Europa League final
victory over Benfica on Thursday and was unlucky not to get his name of the
scoresheet as a strike from the edge of the area struck the
crossbar late in the second half.

Having won the UEFA Champions League last season, there was disappointment at Stamford Bridge when Chelsea were eliminated from the group stages of this year’s competition.

They then moved into the UEFA Europa League and Lampard admitted it was a fantastic achievement for the club to record back-to-back European titles.

“[It’s an] incredible feeling,” he added. “Any European trophy is amazing to win.

“It was an amazing night tonight, I think last year was brilliant for the club, it was ultimate in European football. This year of course we wanted to stay in the Champions League, but the minute we entered the Europa League we wanted to win it and we’ve finally done it.”
