Lavezzi’s Chelsea move falls through due to Mourinho exit

Italian media outlet Sport Mediaset has suggested that Paris Saint-Germain forward Ezequiel Lavezzi was supposed to join Chelsea in the January window.

It is no secret that the Argentine aims to leave Parc des Princes at the earliest opportunity and he has no plans to extend the contract that is due to expire at the end of the current campaign.

According to Sport Mediaset, Lavezzi had agreed a January move to Stamford Bridge, but the deal fell through as manager Jose Mourinho was sacked hours after the transfer had been agreed.

As a result, the Blues decided to pull the plug, leaving the Argentine to continue the search for a new club.

Lavezzi, 30, has a number of suitors among Italy’s top sides, while Brazilian giants Flamengo recently expressed interest in his services as well.

Meanwhile, PSG will attempt to keep hold of him until the end of the season, as they hope to mount a serious title challenge in UEFA Champions League.
