Lazio coach Vladimir Petkovic says his side’s bid for a place in the Coppa Italia final on Tuesday will not distract him from Serie A.
Petkovic’s men face league leaders Juventus in their semi-final second leg next week with the tie poised at 1-1, but he is adamant their league encounter with Chievo is their current focus.
“Believe it or not, the fact we will be playing in the Coppa Italia semi-final on Tuesday won’t change anything for me. We will continue like we’ve started the season: the next fixture is always the most important one,” Petkovic said.
“We need to face Chievo now and only after that we will see how the players are and I’ll start thinking about the Coppa Italia second leg against Juventus.”
The Bosnian-born coach added that his players’ are not at their full potential, but will continue to improve.
“I think everyone noticed how much we’ve been improving and growing in the game against Juventus,” Petkovic said.
“My team needs to improve, we’re not at the top of our game at the moment, but we have improved compared to previous games from the point of view of rationality and speed. With time every one of us will get back into their best shape.
“We are clearly competitive and can put in good performances even against strong teams like Juventus or Tottenham Hotspur and we can gain good results.
“We need to prove that after each game we play, and we need to prove that tomorrow against Chievo and in the Coppa Italia on Tuesday.”
