Lazio, Villarreal vying for Simeone

Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport has learned that Lazio and Villarreal have emerged as favourites to sign Genoa hotshot Giovanni Simeone.

The son of Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone has quickly become one of world’s most sought-after footballers, which is hardly surprising given the start of his career at Stadio Luigi Ferraris.

The brace he scored in weekend’s 3-3 draw against Fiorentina took his goal tally to 10 and prompted some of his suitors to step up their interest.

After selling Alexandre Pato to China, Villarreal submitted a €20 million offer for Simeone, but their approach was swiftly rejected.

It appears that the talented footballer will not be going anywhere this winter, but a summer exit may be on the cards.

Namely, it is believed that Lazio are in pole position for Simeone’s signature as they are readying a summer assault on the 21-year-old that should result in his move to Stadio Olimpico.
