Arsenal have come from four goals down to pull off a stunning 7-5 extra-time victory over Reading in the League Cup on Tuesday.

Reading jumped out to a 4-0 lead by the 37th minute when Noel Hunt scored but Arsenal fought back with Theo Walcott scoring his second goal in second-half stoppage time to force an extra 30 minutes at 4-4.

Arsenal thought they had clinched victory when Marouane Chamakh scored in the first half of extra time.

But Pavel Pogrebnyak equalised for Reading in the 115th minute before Walcott and Chamakh both struck again to clinch an amazing win for Arsene Wenger’s team.

Reading started the goal-fest when Jason Roberts hit the back of the net in the 12th minute, beginning a first-half blitz from the home side.

Arsenal defender Laurent Koscielny scored an own goal to make it 2-0 before Mikele Leigertwood and Hunt extended Reading’s lead to 4-0.

However, when Walcott scored his first just before half-time, it was enough to give the visitors a sniff.

Olivier Giroud and Koscielny scored in the 64th and 89th minutes to drag Arsenal back into the contest before Walcott struck the equaliser and it was the 23-year-old winger who produced the winner when he smashed home a loose ball in the box in the 121st minute.

In Swindon, Aston Villa pulled off a late 3-2 win over the home side with Christian Benteke scoring two goals.

The 21-year-old Belgian striker put Villa in front in the 30th minute before Gabriel Agbonlahor made it 2-0 nine minutes later.

Swindon looked to have pulled off a brilliant game-saving performance in the second half when Miles Storey scored twice in three minutes to make it 2-2 in the 81st minute.

But Benteke struck again in the 90th minute to send Villa into the quarter-finals.

In other results, the Championship sides got the better of their Premier League opponents when Leeds United defeated Southampton 3-0 and Middlesbrough won 1-0 away to Sunderland.
