Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Blaise Matuidi says his side’s main focus should be winning the league.
The Paris club stayed alive in the Coupe de France with a 3-1 victory over Toulouse on Wednesday, but still have a battle on their hands to claim the Ligue 1 title and remain in the last 16 of the Champions League.
While Matuidi would love to win all three competitions, he said the league should remain the club’s priority.
“Of course, this Cup is important but for us the most important is the championship and the Champions League too,” he said.
“It’s nice to play in three different competitions. I’d like to win the Coupe de France, but the league remains our priority.”
PSG were made to work hard for their victory in the Coupe de France, needing two second half goals to see off a resilient Toulouse side and move through to the last 16 of the competition.
“We did the right things, and Toulouse were unable to close the game at 1-1,” Matuidi said.
“We used to have teams that closed the game against us when they were level but they didn’t so we could play our football.
“When Toulouse equalised we were not scared because we knew we could score a couple more goals even if we didn’t manage it in the first half.
“We kept a good state of mind and that’s what helped us to win tonight.”
