Leicester complete sensational Cambiasso swoop

Leicester City have completed something of a transfer coup by signing Esteban Cambiasso on a one-year deal.

The former Real Madrid and Inter midfielder has been a free agent since ending his 10-year stay at San Siro in the close-season.

And Leicester boss Nigel Pearson has persuaded the 34-year-old, who has over 500 club career appearances under his belt, to move to the King Power Stadium as City look to stay in the Premier League after winning the Championship last term.

It looked like a deal to take Cambiasso to Leicester was in danger of collapsing earlier this week when Pearson said: “It’s proved exceptionally hard to find a solution to the negotiations.”

But any issues with the former Argentina international have now been resolved.

And the arrival of a player who has won five Serie A titles, La Liga and the UEFA Champions League is a huge boost to Leicester’s survival hopes.

Cambiasso, previously linked with West Ham and Tottenham earlier this month, could make his Leicester debut in Sunday’s home clash with Arsenal.

Pearson’s men drew their opening-day match with Everton before losing to Chelsea in the Premier League, with a surprise loss to fourth-tier Shrewsbury Town ending their League Cup campaign in the second round.
