Championship outfit Leicester City have announced the signing of veteran Peruvian midfielder Nolberto Solano. The 35 year old has signed a short term contract that will keep him at the Walkers Stadium till the end of the season.
Solano was widely expected to return to Newcastle United, where he made over a 180 appearances between 1998 and 2004, but his trial with the Geordies did not translate into a deal and he was snapped up by Leicester instead. The Foxes are currently managed by Nigel Pearson, who was assistant manager at Newcastle during Solano’s time at Tyneside.
Apart from Newcastle, Solano has also represented Aston Villa, West Ham, Boca Juniors, Deportivo Municipal, Sporting Cristal, Larissa and Universitario de Deportes in the past.
Solano’s transfer did not take place in time for the midfielder to feature in the FA Cup against Cardiff City. The Peruvian is expected to make his bow for the Foxes in next week’s Championship fixture against Barnsley.
