Milan coach Leonardo baffled as to why his side gave away a 2-0 lead and allowed Napoli to equalize in the dying minute

The Rossoneri came very close to earning their third consecutive win in Serie A but Napoli salvaged a remarkable draw, thanks to Luca Cigarini’s 90th-minute volley and German Denis’s stoppage-time header after a lightening quick double salvo in the first five minutes that had put Milan in the ascendancy.

Leonardo is uncertain as to how the victory slipped away and said “it’s not easy to give explanations for matches like this.”

“Certainly we started how we wanted to, by attacking Napoli, perhaps we scored those two goals too early, after that it’s tough to control the result for 85 minutes.

“We suffered, then we did well, then from the 88th minute a lot of things happened, certainly also Ignazio Abate’s sending off had an influence, perhaps I could have taken him off before, but that’s easy to say afterwards. However, we are aware we gave a strong performance.

I don’t see many differences with our last few games, even though this time we were the ones who were pegged back.”

Milan now stands fifth with 16 points alongside Genoa, who beat Fiorentina 2-1 at home.
