PSG football director Leonardo said the club are better suited to European competition after they fell to a shock 1-0 defeat to Reims.

A 64th-minute strike from Grzegorz Krychowiak condemned Carlo Ancelotti’s men to their fifth league defeat of the season, prompting the Brazilian to suggest their style would yield more success in European competition.

“If we analyse the situation, we can say that we are not made to play these types of games,” Leonardo told Infosport. “We’re not made for games like that, we’re a team made to play in Europe.

“PSG is for Europe, not for France. The playing conditions worked against us while playing against an ultra-defensive team, as did the circumstance we play every three days.

“When games are based on a fight, we do not succeed. We will have to learn how to face games like these though, as they are common here and this (the match against Reims) will not be the last time.”

PSG remain top of Ligue 1 and three points ahead of second placed Lyon, who could draw level with a win at Brest on Sunday.
