Leverkusen sign Hilbert

Bayer Leverkusen have announced on their official website that they have signed defender Roberto Hilbert from Besiktas.

The 28-year-old arrives on a free transfer with his contract in Turkey having expired at the end of June.

Hilbert will bring plenty of experience to Bay Arena, having enjoyed four very successful seasons at Stuttgart before moving to Turkish Super Lig.

The experienced defender is set to battle fellow new signing Giulio Donati for a regular starting berth next season.

Roberto Hilbert began his professional career at Greuther Furth as a midfielder, and went on to score 20 goals in 48 league appearances while on loan at SC Feucht before returning to the club.

Three years later he was sold to Stuttgart, where he scored a total of 16 goals in 120 Bundesliga matches, while also earning eight Germany caps.

Hilbert left the Swabians to join Besiktas three years ago and quickly developed into an important member of the side at FIYAPI Inonu Satdium.
