Robert Lewandowski has set his sights on becoming the top goalscorer in the Bundesliga at the end of the season.

The Poland international is leading the charts in Germany with 19 strikes in just 23 appearances and is on course to become the first BVB player since Marcio Amoroso in 2002 to win the gong.

Lewandowski also scored for the eighth game running against Freiburg on Saturday to set a new club record, and the striker is confident about his chances of matching the Brazilian – who needed just 18 goals.

“Bundesliga top scorer? Why not! Of course, the team comes first, but I’m really happy about my goal count this season and I wouldn’t mind bringing it up further,” he told Bild.

The 24-year-old became the most prolific Dortmund scorer in a single league campaign in the last 30 years last term when he netted 22 goals.

His Dortmund team-mate Mario Gotze added: “Robert is just world class! He can do anything. Just the way he makes his goals is testament to his quality. I am really happy to play with him.”
