LFPB Wrap: Nacional Potosi increase unbeaten streak to eight

Nacional Potosi have notched their eighth straight game unbeaten after a 1-0 win over Club Universitario in Bolivia’s LFPB.

Juan Pablo Aponte scored the only goal of the game for Nacional in their win on Sunday, which took the Potosi-based club to 21 points, just behind LFPB leaders The Strongest on goal difference.

The Strongest defeated Oriente Petrolero 3-0 to maintain top spot in the Bolivian league standings but Aponte’s 19th-minute strike ensured Nacional kept the pressure on the reigning champions.

Bolivar sits third on 20 points, while San Jose and Wilstermann are two points further back in fourth and fifth respectively.

In La Paz, Jair Reynoso scored twice in The Strongest’s victory to ensure the capital club bounced back from their 4-3 loss to Wilstermann last week.

Reynoso opened the scoring in the 10th minute and then the Colombian striker doubled The Strongest’s lead with 18 minutes remaining.

Freddy Abastoflor capped off The Strongest’s triumph in the 90th minute, which saw the title-holders extend their winning streak at home to five matches.

Bolivar remain in contention for the LFPB title after they won 3-1 away to Blooming thanks to a brace from William Ferreira and a goal from Juan Miguel Callejon, while San Jose trumped Aurora 5-3 and Wilstermann were held to a 1-1 draw at home by Guabira.

In the weekend’s other match, Sport Boys played out a scoreless stalemate with Real Potosi.
