Morelia produced a courageous performance to earn a point at home to America in Liga MX action on Friday.

Hector Mancilla put the hosts ahead inside the opening two minutes – his third goal in as many games.

America, who were looking to return to winning ways after their loss to Santos Laguna a fortnight ago, equalised through former Birmingham City striker Christian Benitez on the half-hour mark.

Morelia’s hopes of victory were dealt a blow five minutes later when goalkeeper Federico Vilar received a red card, however the home side showed great resilience to hold on for a share of the spoils.

The result leaves Morelia in 10th position, while America moves into second, one point adrift of leaders Tigres.
