Puebla were helped by a fortuitous own goal from Joel Huiqui as they beat Morelia 3-1 in the Liga MX at the Estadio Cuauhtemoc on Sunday.

The calamitous incident occurred in the 18th minute when Huiqui attempted to head the ball back to Federico Vilar but succeeded only in looping it over the goalkeeper’s head to hand Puebla the lead.

Morelia got themselves back into the game just three minutes later however thanks to a Hector Mancilla goal.

But Puebla refused to be denied and went ahead again in the 27th minute through Felix Borja before Gustavo Alustiza sealed the win in injury time.

Atlante also recorded a 3-1 win as they proved to be too strong for Monterrey.

All the goals came in the second half with Jose Fonseca, Cristian Maidana and Esteban Paredes giving the home side an unassailable 3-0 lead before Aldo de Nigris scored a consolation for Monterrey with eight minutes left.

In the day’s other games, Guadalajara could only manage a 1-1 draw with San Luis while neither Pumas UNAM or Santos Laguna could find the back of the net as they drew 0-0.
