Santos Laguna pulled level with Liga MX leaders Tigres UANL on Friday after a 1-0 victory over Monterrey at home.

Heading into the clash in fifth place, Santos’ win was powered by an 18th-minute strike from Felipe Baloy at the Estadio Nuevo Corona.

The win moved Santos into second position, level on 29 points with Tigres, but the leaders are still to play this weekend.

In Friday’s other match, Leon needed a 94th-minute goal from Edwin Hernandez to salvage a 2-2 draw away to Jaguares.

Leiton Jimenez opened the scoring five minutes into the second half, and Luis Gabriel Rey made it 2-0 after 58 minutes.

But Leon were not finished, and Carlos Pena cut the deficit just after the hour mark before Hernandez’s late heroics secured a draw for the visitors.

Leon are 16th, on 10 points after the draw, still four behind Jaguares who are 15th.
