Tigres UANL have extended their lead atop the Liga MX table to three points after accounting for Cruz Azul on Saturday in Mexico City.

A first-half brace from Emanuel Villa gave Tigres a 2-0 lead at the break and despite Christian Gimenez pegging one back for Cruz Azul in the 59th minute, they could not find the back of the net again as the visitors ran out 2-1 victors.

That result, coupled with second-placed Atlas being surprisingly held to a 0-0 draw by struggling Queretaro, ensured Tigres’ grip on top spot was strengthened.

Tijuana (fourth) capitalised on America (third) slipping up on Friday by beating Atlante 2-0 to close in on the top three.

Goals from Raul Arambula and Duvier Riascos sealed the win for Tijuana who now only trail America on goal difference.

In other results, Pumas UNAM defeated San Luis 2-0 and Monterrey accounted for Puebla 3-0.
