Maritimo survived multiple fightbacks from Academica to win their Liga Sagres clash 3-2 on Monday.
The visitors to Estadio EFAPEL took control of the Portuguese top-flight contest when they went two goals up through 25 minutes courtesy of finishes from Danilo Dias and Artur.
Academica pulled one back just before the half-time whistle, though, when Edinho was on target, only for Maritimo to reinstate their two-goal lead three minutes after the interval when Sami scored.
The three points were then never in doubt for Pedro Martins’ side, although Wilson Eduardo struck in the fourth minute of additional time – albeit it too late to salvage a result.
It was Academica’s third straight league defeat, leaving them 12th on 20 points – just five above the drop.
Maritimo, meanwhile, are sixth on 28 points – seven behind Pacos de Ferreira in third spot, and a potential European place.
